Hello Everyone.
We are back from Nevada where we ran the Best in the Desert, Vegas to Reno event.
Our race ended early again, yes, driver error, again.
The truck was fast, everything worked well and all of the pieces were in place for a good run. We started in sixth position and had passed all but the leader by mile 99 (our first fuel stop)
At mile 133 we caught a competitor, he rolled in a hairpin right hander just a few seconds in front of us blocking the course. After digging out and helping him get back on his wheels ,we had lost nearly an hour but had only been passed by 1 of our class competitors.
In my haste to make up time, I hit a rock with the left front, taking out the corner. A mistake that would ultimately cost the team a finish.
While we could not have continued, we were able to make repairs and drive onto the trailer.
In all we made 134 of the 534 miles. UUUGGGHH!
We continue to make improvements in vehicle performance. The new sway bar helped cornering tremendously. The new brake setup was the best we have had. And we had no flat tires this time out. As you can imagine, Vegas was HOT! Around 107 on Thursday during tech and contingency. Luckily, we sailed through with no issues. Got all stickered up and met with Goodyear and a few other potential partners.
All in all, we had a great weekend and got a lot of exposure.
We proved that we have the speed necessary to compete at this level. Now I need to work on my patience. AND rebuild the front of the truck.
I have enclosed some photos from the start and 1 from the first road crossing. Send photos if you have them.
Ron
